We absolutely love knocking up a super quick air fryer flatbread pizza for those days when we’re low on time, motivation or just want something delicious without putting lots of effort in.

Whether you want to make your own flatbreads, or use shop bought, you can have one of those prepared, cooked and ready to be devoured in just a few minutes!

I absolutely love how fast the air fryer makes it to cook just about anything. All the recipes I make are faster than oven cooking, and best of all it just sits on the worktop so I don’t have to worry about having the oven on and my 1 year old playing with the door handle constantly.

Making flatbread pizzas are a great activity for little ones. You can prepare the ingredients in advance for them, then place them in little dishes, and they can have great fun making up their own flatbread pizza.

These are fantastic for prepping to fill lunch boxes too. I love to make a batch up, of 3-4 at a time, cooking individually in the air fryer for the best results. This recipe would also work great with no-knead naan bread.

Ingredients for air fryer flatbread pizza:

1 flatbread of choice – I love these ones from Deli Kitchen

30ml pizza sauce (I use my own roasted tomato pizza sauce, a thickened version of this pasta sauce or any shop bought pizza sauce depending on my mood)

Pepperoni or other toppings

30g grated mozzarella or cheddar cheese

Herbs (basil and oregano are my favourite!)

Four coated chicken wings cooked in the Ninja Foodi on air crisp / fry mode

Method for making a flatbread pizza in the air fryer:

Pop your flatbread on a chopping board or even directly in the air fryer basket (if it’s cold!).

Spread the pizza sauce over the top of the flatbread.

Add your meat, vegetables or other pizza toppings.

Sprinkle the cheese over the top LAST. The air fryer will likely have a significant amount of airflow so if you place the pepperoni on last, like you might in the oven, you’ll find that this can blow off the pizza, fold over on itself or even get stuck on the element.

Personally I use a little spray olive oil in the air fryer basket to prevent sticking. You could use baking paper if you want to, however, this will block the holes in the air fryer basket which is what helps it to cook your food so efficiently.

You don’t need to pre-heat your air fryer for this pizza recipe.

Place the flatbread in a single layer in the air fryer basket. I like to cook one at a time, as that’s usually all that fits comfortably in the air fryer.

Cook at 200C (400F approx) for 4-5 minutes. Check 3 minutes in to make sure it’s not burning.

Top your pizza with a sprinkling of fresh herbs (or dried work well too).

Slice the flatbread up into triangles, if you like, and then serve.

This goes great with a side of air fryer garlic bread, or some air fryer frozen halloumi fries. My girls also love an air fryer frozen chicken nugget or two!

Can you use frozen flatbread for pizza?

Yes, absolutely. You’re going to want to allow another 2-3 minutes for the pizza to cook well. I would suggest giving the flatbread 2-3 minutes on it’s own, then making up as per the instructions above, just to make sure it is defrosted fully and cooked throughout.

What are the best toppings for pizzas in the air fryer?

Any of the toppings that you love on a conventional pizza dough can be used on these flatbreads. We love a nice mix of mushrooms, peppers and onions. Shredded mozzarella and mini pepperoni (Peperami work great) is a classic combination that is always a hit too.

What are some tasty sauces to serve with flatbread pizza in the air fryer?

Is flatbread pizza healthier?

Absolutely. You can enjoy this flatbread pizza, using my exact method detailed above, and it’s only the equivalent to 2 slices of takeaway pizza. Or half of a stone baked frozen pizza from the supermarket.

You can adjust the ingredients if you’re looking to make it even healthier by using a lower calorie cheese, and if you’re looking for something different you can switch the flatbread to naan bread or even a roti would work great!

Want to make your own flatbreads?

I’ve got a fantastic recipe for no yeast flatbreads. These are really simple and you can knock them up with just a few minutes effort.

I absolutely love making things from scratch as it is a great way to satisfy a craving when I don’t want to go to the supermarket for supplies.

Self-raising flour, natural yoghurt and baking powder are the only ingredients you need to make them too so most people will have these on hand at home.

I’ve got a TON of fab pizza recipes now and here are some of my favourites:

An air fryer basket with loaded frozen french fries. Air fryer loaded fries with minced beef, peppers, tomatoes, onions and nacho cheese sauce

Can you freeze these?

Yes, you can make up the flatbreads and then freeze them. The frozen flatbreads can be cooked, using the same temperature, but just add 2-3 minutes to the cooking time.

The cheese goes all gooey still, with a crispy topping, & they stay lovely and fluffy on the inside too.

What cheeses work well on flatbread pizzas?

Personally I find that mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese works well, often I will use a mix of the two.

On occasion I’ve used Vegan grated cheese and while this doesn’t melt quite as well it still works good!

What herbs and spices work well on pizza?

This is personal preference of course. I LOVE fresh basil and oregano served with my air fried pizzas. Fresh herbs are my preferred choice but I’ve also used dried herbs and even frozen herbs too.

Personally I use quite a few different dried herbs, because I cook from scratch most days, and I just can’t keep up with growing enough fresh herbs at the moment!

If you’re looking for something a little spicier then why not try making up my Mexican spice blend which is packed full of flavour to jazz up any leftover peppers and onions you may have lying around.

Something to note about air fryer recipes is that all air fryers have different sizes, depths and as such the cooking times can vary. All air fryer recipes on this website are intended as a guide, and not a guarantee that the timings will be perfect. Enjoy!
