I absolutely love to make my family a hot breakfast, especially when the colder mornings are here. My air fryer is my most loved kitchen gadget and I use it at least once most days. I love to make breakfast in it now, with things like air fryer bacon and air fryer chocolate protein oats appearing in our meal plan quite often. This air fryer French toast is a new addition and my daughters are absolutely loving it.
The air fryer is so simple to use, taking just seconds to get in use. Mine sits out on my worktop all of the time so I’m able to load it up and get cooking something delicious in just a matter of minutes.
I recently got rid of my toaster, and started making air fryer toast. I also toast bagels in the air fryer too, as they only take 4 minutes and come out perfect every time. Best of all I don’t have to worry about watching the grill which is ideal for busy mornings getting my girls ready for school.
Making French toast is a great way to cut food waste. You can use any stale bread, but I persoanlly prefer to just use a lovely loaf of thick brioche bread. This has the best flavour for brioche, in my opinion, and is absolutely stunning served with strawberries, maple syrup and a dusting of icing sugar.

Ingredients for air fryer french toast:
6 slices of bread (brioche is the best! I use this one)
4 eggs
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
150ml milk (I use semi-skimmed)
Toppings – I tend to use:
30ml maple syrup
6 large strawberries
5g icing sugar
Method for making french toast in the air fryer:
Whisk together the eggs, milk and cinnamon.
Pour the mixture into a shallow dish.
Add the slices of bread to the dish and leave them to soak up the mixture for a few minutes.
Place 1-2 pieces of the soaked bread carefully into your air fryer basket.
Air fry at 180C (355F approx) for 4 minutes.
Turn the french toast over using tongs or a spatula.
Air fry for a further 4 minutes at 180C (355F approx).
If you like your French toast extra crispy then you’ll probably want to turn it up to the maximum heat of your air fryer, usually 200C or 220C, for 1 minute max. My Ninja dual air fryer has a max cirsp setting, 240C (465F approx) so I just use this for around 30 seconds.
What to serve with air fryer toast?
We love to enjoy ours with sliced strawberries, maple syrup and a tiny dusting of icing sugar. It’s a delicious sweet treat and the flavours just work so well.
Bacon and maple syrup is another great combination, as is sliced bananas that have been caramelised in a little brown sugar.
What other bread can you use for this french toast?
While I love to use brioche personally, as I feel it brings the best flavour, you can use ANY leftover bread really. Sourdough works nicely, as does good old white bread – even the cheap loaves are delicious turned into french toast!
Can you reheat French toast in the air fryer?
Yes, absolutely. Sometimes I’ll make up a whole loaf worth, just to avoid it going to waste, and then we’ll enjoy it for a few days for a nice easy breakfast. I air fry at 180C (350F approx) for 3 minutes usually, which is perfect for crispy French toast.
Finding that your French toast isn’t getting crispy?
It may be that you used thin bread, or that it was on the flimsy side. Personally I use sliced brioche and I’ve never had a piece that didn’t go crispy in the air fryer, or even on the hob.
The ideal bread to be using is one that is a little on the stale side. I find that brioche takes a really long time to go stale though, at least the ones from UK supermarkets! Sometimes I’ll use some of my own chocolate chip brioche rolls.
Want to make these into French toast sticks?
I often make Ninja air fryer French toast sticks. I like to cut the bread, then soak it, and I cut the cooking time by 2-3 minutes, as I find that they crisp up faster.
These are great for little ones to hold and are fun served with a dipping sauce such as my chocolate sauce or salted caramel sauce. Yum!
