I absolutely love to use my air fryer. It is such a convenient way to cook up a chicken dish in a hurry. Sometimes I’ll slice the breasts in half lengthways, to cook them faster, but on the days when I want something packed with flavour, for minimal effort, I love to use shake and bake, so juicy bags or these Nando’s Bag and Bake kits.
Each of these kits comes with a baking paper bag, or plastic bag, and a seasoning kit. You just need to get your ingredients of choice, chicken for this recipe, and then you place this into the bag, add the seasoning, mix well to coat all of the chicken and then fold or tie the bag. I typically buy mine from Tesco.
With the Nando’s bag and bake kits you just fold it over twice and then pop it inside the air fryer with the seam side facing downwards. This prevents it flying open and is super simple too. Do this before your air fryer gets hot!
I love how simple the Bag and Bake sets are to use. It takes just minutes to prepare the chicken and then you can let the air fryer run through the time, while you prep some tasty side dishes, and have a flavour packed meal with very minimal effort. Also, these kits are often on special offer in UK supermarkets too so they’re great for stocking up on.
Once you’ve enjoyed making this recipe if you’ve got some leftovers then they work great in a pasta dish and I sometimes use mine in an air fryer pasta bake. I love how much flavour the chicken breasts have and for very minimal time and effort.
Anyway, let’s get to it… Here is my method for using the Nando’s bag and bake kits to make delicious juicy and flavour packed chicken every single time. Also, if you don’t have this kit to hand then maybe try this air fryer Nando’s chicken instead.

Ingredients for air fryer Nando’s bag and bake:
4 chicken breasts (I usually get the 650g packet)
Nando’s Bag and Bake – these come in lemon and herb, garlic, medium, hot and smokey BBQ.
Method for making Nando’s bag and bake in the air fryer:
Prep your chicken breasts by removing any fat, skin, gristle etc.
Remove the seasoning and bag from the Nando’s bag and bake box.
Add the chicken breasts to the bag and bake bag.
Pour the seasoning in.
Fold the bag over and fold the edge down twice.
Shake the bag gently to ensure even coverage of the chicken breasts. You should be able to see the chicken changing colour through the bag but you can always reopen it to take another look if necessary.
Add to the air fryer, folded side down.
Cook at 200C (395F approx) for 18-20 minutes. Shake halfway through the cooking time.
Check the internal temperature of the chicken is safe before serving.
I used larger chicken breasts and found 20 minutes perfect. If you’re using chicken tenders, mini fillets or butterfly chicken breasts then you may be able to reduce this time as low as 12-14 minutes, depending on the thickness.
Can you use Nando’s bag and bake in the air fryer?
Absolutely! This post has all the instructions you’ll need. I love how convenient it is to use the air fryer for this Nando’s chicken.
Using the Nando’s bag and bake in the air fryer makes for a super simple dinner. If you’re a big fan of peri peri chicken then be sure to check out these recipes too:
What type of chicken do I use in the Nando’s bag and bake?
You don’t have to use chicken breasts. You can use ANY cut of chicken that you like. You could even use this for a whole chicken, although I’d leave it out of the bag and just use the seasoning blend personally. I love to make an air fryer whole chicken and the lemon and herb blend would work particularly well for this.
If you’re using chicken with bones in, such as chicken thigh, chicken wings or chicken drumsticks then you’re going to want to adjust the cooking time accordingly as these will take a few more minutes typically.
Do I have to use chicken in the bag and bake?
Don’t stop at just chicken though – the bag and bake is great for using with vegetables, halloumi or even steak.
The seasoning kits, and the bag, are great for cooking meats to perfection, but it also works beautifully with onions, peppers, courgettes, sweet potatoes, white potatoes and more.
Are there lots of calories in the Nando’s bag and bake?
Absolutely not! The seasoning mixes are around 20g and typically 45-60 calories for the entire serving. This, with your chicken or vegetables, makes for a great dinner option that isn’t packed full of calories.
What’s the best Nando’s Bag and Bake?
Personally I LOVE the medium one. It has lots of flavour, without being overpoweringly spicy. I am also a fan of the lemon and herb, which is great for using as a marinade when you’re going to BBQ meat instead. Don’t use the bag in a gas oven or on a gas barbecue though as it is flammable!
