Using the air fryer is such a great way to have delicious food, with fewer calories. This air fryer prawn toast is very simple to prepare while being super crispy and delicious.
You can make this with just about any bread that you have in, even frozen bread, and it takes just a few minutes to prepare which is fantastic.
We love Chinese food, but don’t always love that greasy feeling afterwards from eating all the deep fried food. I’ve started to make more Chinese recipes at home now, and this one is a real winner so I had to share it with you.

This goes great along Ninja Foodi white rice too, so delicious and the perfect healthy side dish!

Ingredients for air fryer prawn toast:
100g of cooked King prawns
3 pieces of bread (I used Danish bread as this is quite light on calories but you can use any you like)
1/4 thumb sized piece of ginger – also check out my ginger and turmeric shots.
1 clove of garlic
30g egg whites
A pinch of sugar
1 spring onion
1 tsp light soy sauce
Spray oil (I use rapeseed or sunflower)
30g sesame seeds
To serve: Dipping sauce of your choice. I serve with 40g of sweet chilli sauce.
Method for air fryer prawn toast:
In a blender, food processor or Nutribullet, combine together the prawns, ginger (peel with a spoon), garlic (peeled), egg whites, sugar, spring onions and light soy sauce.
Blitz for a few seconds until you have a thick paste.
Spread the paste on to one side of each of the pieces of bread.
Spread the sesame seeds on to the top of the paste lined bread.
Add a little spray oil.
Spray the air fryer basket with a little spray oil.
Slice the bread into four triangles by cutting diagonally top left to bottom right, then top right to bottom left.
Place the bread in the air fryer, I personally cook 6-8 triangles at a time to ensure lots of room for air circulation.

Air fry at 200C for 7-8 minutes. Check at 6 minutes to ensure they do not begin to burn.
Air fry all of the pieces.
Serve with a dipping sauce of your choice, I love sweet and sour sauce or sweet chilli sauce.
Enjoy!
Don’t want to just use egg whites?
Replace the egg whites with 1/2 – 1 beaten egg if you don’t want to use the whites only. You can buy cartons of egg whites from several UK supermarkets.
What are the best prawns to use for prawn toast?
I love to use cooked King prawns, as then I don’t need to worry if the prawns are cooked properly. As this dish only takes a few minutes in the air fryer you’re really just heating up the paste mixture and then ensuring that the sesame seeds go golden brown and that the toast is cooked thoroughly.
You could use raw prawns, with similar results, but, as with all meat and fish dishes, ensure that everything is cooked thoroughly before serving.
What type of bread should you use?
I have used Danish bread, as it is light on calories at around 50 per slice, but you can use just about any bread that you enjoy. Seeded bread will give an extra crunch and if you’re looking to try something a little different then I bet a rye bread would be a very interesting twist on the flavour.
Cooking time should be similar for all types of bread, as long as you follow the basic recipe similarly.
Can you use dried garlic and ginger instead?
Yes, I would recommend fresh, just for the best flavour. If you don’t have this to hand then use 1/4 tsp of garlic granules and ground ginger.
What are the best dips for prawn toast?
Personally I like to use sweet and sour sauce, sweet chilli sauce or even just a bowl of light soy sauce for something a little different.
I tend to be serving this prawn toast alongside a meal, as a side or a snack, and so it is often dipped into the sauce of whatever main meal we are enjoying.

Can you freeze this prawn toast?
As you’re using cooked prawns you’re going to want to freeze this BEFORE cooking it in the air fryer, not after.
Never reheat this dish as the prawns have already been cooked and you’re then effectively re-heating them for this dish.

Something to note about air fryer recipes is that all air fryers have different sizes, depths and as such the cooking times can vary. All air fryer recipes on this website are intended as a guide, and not a guarantee that the timings will be perfect. Enjoy!
