All you need to make super tasty air fryer sausage rolls are just four ingredients. This recipe is super simple to make and great fun to prepare with little ones too.
I love to make just about anything in our air fryer, as everything goes so crispy and delicious. The air fryer makes it super fast to cook all foods, quicker than the oven, and the results are fantastic too.
Whether you’re an air fryer beginner, or a seasoned pro, these homemade sausage rolls cooked in the air fryer are going to be a real crowd pleaser.
Making mini sausage rolls in the air fryer is a great way to use up any leftover sausage meat, perhaps from a roast dinner or making a sausage meat sage and onion stuffing. I particularly love to make air fryer stuffing, as it is so simple.

Something to note about air fryer recipes is that all air fryers have different sizes, depths and as such the cooking times can vary. All air fryer recipes on this website are intended as a guide, and not a guarantee that the timings will be perfect. Enjoy!
Ingredients for air fryer sausage rolls:
375g sheet of ready rolled puff pastry
454g sausage meat (standard sized tube in the UK)
1 medium egg
30g sesame seeds
Method for making homemade sausage rolls in the air fryer:
Remove the sausage meat from the tube and work it a little in a bowl until you have a more workable mix. You can add some additional seasoning here if your sausage meat is not already seasoned.
Lay out your sheet of puff pastry.
Place the sausage meat on the puff pastry and then roll over onto itself to cover the sausage meat. I find that I can make two batches of sausage rolls if I go widthways along the pastry, near the bottom and near the top.
Crack the egg into a bowl and whisk well.
Brush the beaten off over the top of the rolled pastry with the sausage meat inside.
Sprinkle the sesame seeds over the top of the brushed pastry.
Cut the sausage rolls to your desired size. I was able to get 22 mini sausage rolls from the mix, ideal for serving up at a party or when you have guests dropping in.
Air fryer at 180C (355F) for 8 minutes, or until golden brown.
Serve with tomato ketchup or your choice of dipping sauce.
What to serve with sausage rolls:
Of course tomato ketchup is a classic but there are a variety of other things that work well. You can cook up some air fryer chips, and perhaps some air fryer green beans, and have a more substantial meal.
We love brown sugar BBQ sauce, sriracha mayonnaise, garlic mayonnaise and sweet chilli sauce too. I can’t think of a single dip that doesn’t work really well for this recipe.
Can you re-heat sausage rolls in the air fryer?
Yes, absolutely. Make sure that, like with all foods, you’re only reheating once to avoid food poisoning. Check that food has reached a safe internal temperature.
Personally I find that 3-4 minutes at 180C is sufficient to safely re-heat these sausage rolls and bring a little more life back to them.
Can you freeze these sausage rolls?
Yes! If the sausage meat was already frozen when you purchased it then you should not freeze them uncooked, but instead follow the cooking methods and then re-heat them directly from frozen for 5 minutes or so. Check they are piping hot before serving!
Can you cook frozen sausage rolls in the air fryer?
Absolutely! As a guide I always say to look at the packet times and start with half the cooking time and 20C less on the cooking temperature. This is a great starting place for air frying and you can always add a few more minutes to the cooking time, or increase the temperature, if you feel that it is needed.
Cooking frozen foods in the air fryer is a great way to make something super fast, tasty and delicious too.
What are the best sausages to use in sausage rolls?
I love to use sausage meat, from the frozen section of the supermarket, just because it is cheap and convenient.
You could use your favourite sausages instead, Vegan, Vegetarian or meat based. just remove the outer casing and squeeze the sausage meat into a bowl. Add any herbs or spices as you like. A crushed garlic clove or two always goes very nicely in sausage meat too.
What herbs work well for sausage rolls?
You can use any herbs you fancy, but I love to dress the sausage rolls with beaten egg and sesame seeds then sprinkle on a little garlic salt, onion salt, fresh thyme or fresh rosemary.
