My air fryer sweet potato fries take just a few minutes to prepare and they are pretty tasty too. If you want to try something extra naughty and tasty then my air fryer cheese chips are always a hit in my home!
I’m a real fan of cooking food from scratch.
Firstly, it is almost always cheaper, if you don’t include your labour time.
Secondly, it is usually healthier too.
These together are a winning combination for me and often what motivates me to get off my backside and make something tasty for dinner!

I’ve got a HUGE amount of air fryer recipes, including delicious air fryer side dishes and desserts made in the air fryer. These help me to feed my family in a hurry and with minimal effort too usually. I love to use Ninja Foodi accessories to help make a vast array of delicious meals with just my Ninja Foodi OL750UK.
While getting a takeaway is a nice treat I don’t always want to feed my family unhealthy food all the time and this is where my air fried sweet potato fries come in. They are a nice compromise between fried chips and being healthier.
If you don’t want to make these yourself then be sure to check out my air fryer frozen sweet potato fries recipe to tell you the cooking method for frozen ones. Also, my air fryer carrot fries are super tasty too!

As you can see it is really simple to make air fryer sweet potato fries thanks to *this chipper that I bought. As sweet potatoes are harder than normal white potatoes I did have to cut them up a few times. This meant that in total I spent around 2-3 minutes chipping the potatoes.
This is significantly faster than doing them by hand and I was making a LOT of air fryer sweet potato fries. I love the air fryer. You can cook with air only, but I often add a few sprays of oil. Typically I will use no more than 10 sprays of 1 calorie oil.
Ingredients for air fryer sweet potato fries:
500g of sweet potatoes – I find this is usually 2 large sweet potato
Salt & pepper + herbs/spices of choice (see below for my favourites)
Spray oil or olive oil
Method for air fryer sweet potato fries
Chip potatoes (I don’t peel them first).
Parboil for 5 minutes in boiling water.
Drain and leave to steam for a couple of minutes.
Set the air fryer to 160c (320F approx).
Season well with salt & pepper, spray on a few sprays of spray oil, or 1/2 tablespoon of olive oil.
Shake up.
Add to the air fryer basket and cook at 160c (320F approx) for 13 minutes. Then turn the temperature up to 200C (390F approx) for 5 minutes. This helps them crisp up and be extra delicious.
These sweet potato fries are so tasty! They are simple to make and we enjoyed ours with a slow cooker roast chicken for something a little different.

What to serve with sweet potato fries?
Personally I love to keep it simple. Often I’ll opt for air fryer BBQ chicken, air fryer hunters chicken or even just air fryer chicken nuggets when I want to keep it simple.
Veggies wise I love to add air fryer green beans, air fryer corn on the cob or air fryer tenderstem broccoli.
Do you parboil these fries before air frying?
Yes, as detailed above (and below!) I like to parboil these for 5 minutes.
Can you make these fries without oil?
Yes! Though I would suggest you use a little spray oil if you want them to crisp up better. You only need a few sprays and then you can shake the fries up to make sure they’re properly covered. Ideally repeat this during the cooking process to get the best results.
Do these fries go crispy?
They’re NOT as crispy as white potato fries, or frozen chips, but they’re pretty good! I love the flavour of these and they’re a nice alternative to white potato fries.
Best seasoning for sweet potato fries?
I love to make my own seasoning blends including cajun seasoning, peri peri seasoning and even fajita seasoning.
Garlic powder works great, as does thyme or rosemary. Speaking of garlic and rosemary my rosemary and garlic roast potatoes are a delicious potato dish too!
Best dipping sauce to serve with sweet potato fries?
My favourite dipping sauce would have to be classic tomato ketchup, but we also love sweet and sour sauce, BBQ sauce, mayonnaise or onion gravy for something a little different.
Something to note about air fryer recipes is that all air fryers have different sizes, depths and as such the cooking times can vary. All air fryer recipes on this website are intended as a guide, and not a guarantee that the timings will be perfect. Enjoy!

My particular one isn't the easiest to clean, however, they sell glass ones so they are miles easier!
That is great news about your slow cooker, well done.
