The Meal Planning Linky Week #102 Meal Plan

Happy Friday. I hope your week has gone well. This week has been one of ups and downs for us. Thomas had an operation yesterday, which he is home recovering from, and because it was dental related I’m going to be planning lots of simple, fairly soft meals for the week ahead. Meals that don’t require a lot of prep time – as I need to get organised for Christmas still. Having absolutely minimal food waste is always important to me but I’m making things stretch even further at the moment because we still have so many house jobs to pay for. I will be taking steps to make sure we are avoiding overspending on groceries and this week I’m going to visit Lidl or Aldi for my shop, rather than doing an online shop. We’ve got lots of supplies in the fridge & freezer for Daisy, including her specialist bread and snacks, so I’m hopeful I won’t need to visit a ‘big’ supermarket again this week. I only spent £45 last week, including about £10 of treats, so I was really pleased!

Every week I like to sit down, for 15-30 minutes, and work on a meal plan. I try and do this a few days before we’re going to need to go shopping, so I have time to add things on to the shopping list before heading out. Sometimes I pick up a reduced bargain in my local Co-Op and other times I am trying to bulk out meat dishes to save a little bit of money. Overall I enjoy meal planning now I have been doing it for almost 2 years continuously. In that time we’ve saved a LOT of money versus ordering meal boxes and buying too many takeaways, but this IS an area that we still need to work on. In the past, I switched from shopping at Tesco to shopping at Aldi and saved over 30% and I want to start visiting the discounter supermarkets more, as they really do save money, but of course it is a trade off of time/convenience.

Each week I invite other bloggers to link up their meal plans, to try and share recipes around with one another, inspire each other and hopefully drive a little bit of extra traffic too!

The Meal Planning Linky Week #102

I’ve got 7 dinners planned this week. I’m hoping we can avoid the lure of the takeaway completely, to save money, and also to eat healthier.

The meals for the Meal Planning Linky Week #102 are:

Easy dinner – I’ll pick something up in Lidl I expect!

Bolognese pasta bake
This bolognese pasta bake is great for using up leftover bolognese and bulking out a little packet of mince.

Bolognese pasta bake & homemade garlic bread

Slow cooker beef chilli - A sneak peek at the end result
I love adding lots of beans & vegetables to my chilli as it is great to help add more fibre and use less expensive meat.

Slow cooker chilli

Jacket potatoes in the slow cooker - A look at the finished result!
These jacket potatoes are super simple! Just prep, pop in the slow cooker and they’re ready and waiting at dinnertime.

Slow cooker jacket potatoes with leftover slow cooker chilli

Smoked paprika chicken – this is just a packet mix one!

Spaghetti carbonara – again, another simple dinner.

Slow cooker whole chicken uk recipe
This whole chicken is absolutely delicious. It is super simple and you can use the stock the chicken produces for a delicious homemade gravy.

Slow cooker whole chicken dinner with all the trimmings including sage and onion stuffing, ultimate onion gravy, air fryer roast potatoes, and air fryer honey glazed parsnips.

If you’re looking for meal planning inspiration then be sure to read my meal planning tips and my meal planning with mince post. I’ve also got a post about making a roast chicken go further.

The Meal Planning Linky Week #101 Meal Plan

Happy Friday! I hope that your week has been a good one. We’ve achieved lots of jobs at home, completed a deep clean and started the next decorating job – decorating my office. I’m so excited and the house is coming along nicely now. We’ve spent a fortune, more than I care to admit at this moment in time really, but it’s starting to get warm and clean and fresh in here so it’s worth every penny really. This spending means that having a control on our family finances is more important than ever! Having absolutely minimal food waste is always important to me but I’m making things stretch even further at the moment. I will be taking steps to make sure we are avoiding overspending on groceries and this week I’m going to visit Lidl or Aldi for my shop, rather than doing an online shop. Happy Friday! Hopefully you’ve had a great week, as I have. Wow. 100 weeks of meal planning. Amazing! I can’t believe people still link up weekly and I’m still enjoying sharing my meal plan! We have been away to a wedding, and are heading home today. Thanks to being prepared we’ve enjoyed a few days off cooking but come home to lovely meals planned & shopping already on its way. I meal plan to save money, where possible, make the most of bargains and use up everything we have in. I’m loving getting back to meal planning and really excited about normality returning to our life after a busy month. This week I want to try and ensure that we’re having absolutely minimal food waste, ideally none if possible, and to avoid expensive takeaways too. Meal planning helps us to stay organised and saves us money too. Every week I share with you my meal plan for the coming week and provide a post for other bloggers to link up (see below).
