I’m a big fan of supporting talent, helping other bloggers, engaging with people and making a network of friends online. This helps me to stay motivated, gives me tips for work collaborations and best of all it means I have people to talk to online who know what this self-employed life is about. Sometimes, while networking, I meet people that I genuinely love! Today I want to share a guest post with you from two such people, David and Donetta. I absolutely blinking love their YouTube videos, and watching them on Instagram Live most days. They are really genuine, lovely people, just trying to have a great life, be positive and share that with others. Hope you enjoy!
First things first, massive thanks to Katy for inviting us to guest post on her blog, we’re genuinely honoured! Secondly, we should introduce ourselves. We’re David and Donetta from the imaginatively named davidanddonetta.co.uk. We’re a married couple from Yorkshire that document our life in all formats, blogs, vlogs and podcasts.
We have recently taken the decision for Donetta to leave her main job to go all in on our own adventure of working from home. I, David, have been blogging for just over 2 years whilst also being the main at-home-parent and it’s been going pretty well, not quite where we want it to be but it’s on the way. It’s been a while now that we’ve been putting plans into place for Donetta to eventually join me at home to really ramp things up.
You see our goal is to be as much in control of our own lives as we possibly can. Working and earning our own money from home, home educating our youngest (We have two teenagers in school but our boy is only 5) and generally walk our own paths rather than dance to someone else’s tune on a daily basis.
I think given the opportunity many families would like to have their time and success in their own hands. We’re working towards that goal and have decided that short term sacrifices will result in long term success. Success for us is not having to worry about the bank running empty on a weekly basis. Many families nowadays are living month to month, week to week or even day to day. With that in mind, it brings me on nicely to the awesome work Katy does on this very website. Creating, promoting and sharing ways to earn anything from an extra few quid on the side, to a full time wage from home is massively useful for many people and families across the UK.
We’re one of them! We use many of the same resources Katy talks about on this website to help supplement the income we make from building our own online presence in the marriage, lifestyle and parenting world.
All of this sounds great or for some I’d imagine working with your partner sounds terrifying, I would suggest it depends on how your family dynamics work. Luckily for us, we have such similar views on many things and we have an agreed vision that we want to aim towards. Working together is not without hiccups at all. You’d be mad to think being married together, parenting together, home educating together and now working together runs smoothly – it doesn’t! Strong communication, and a strong vision of where you’re going and what you want, is absolutely vital.
Donetta and I have been together almost 7 years now and know each other inside out and that’s a big help. There are times when you can bring up a controversial topic or something you disagree on and there are times you need to just shut the hell up! The latter is something I’ve certainly not perfected just yet.
We are massively intrigued as to how many other couples work together on top of generally navigating through everyday life together. Is it something you’d find impossible, is it something you’re working towards, let us know in the comments?
We’d love to have you join our community online too over at @davidanddonetta and thank you for reading!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this introduction to David and Donetta! I think they are really down to earth, hard-working, lovely people and I really enjoy watching their videos!
