I've been focusing on nutrition a lot more for the past couple of years. I've become fitter, healthier, stronger, and have built a lot more muscle too. I love to incorporate simple swaps into my day, as I'm often short on time, that help me hit my macros, including my protein goals, and one such switch is making these easy protein waffles in my waffle maker, using Naked Nutrition's Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder.

We love to sit down on weekends for a family focused breakfast. Often we'll have tasty goodies, such as pancakes and waffles, but I was looking for a way to make these a little more geared towards my fitness goals, and also to help me post gym workouts, as I often head there first thing on weekends.

These easy protein waffles, that I cook in my waffle maker, are a hit, and they're great to make in advance in a small batch to reheat on busy weekday mornings.

While these waffles are not as light and fluffy as my usual easy waffles, they are full of protein, taste nice and are not too dry.

I think that all of the ingredients for this recipe are pretty much store cupboard must-haves, or at least in my home they are.

I've been adding protein to my recipes for a couple of years now and I love that this Naked Nutrition Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder has No GMOs, nothing artificial or synthetic, and the cows that produce the whey are free-roaming, and live on small non-GMO dairy farms. Each 30g serving contains 25g of protein, which makes it really simple to add into recipes that you already know and love to improve the protein they contain.

Ingredients for easy protein waffle for waffle maker:

Makes 4 waffles

  • 80g oats (blended into flour)
  • 2 eggs
  • 225g greek yogurt
  • 30g Naked Nutriton Grass-Fed Whey Protein Powder
  • 4g baking powder
  • 15g sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Method for making protein waffles in the waffle maker:

Preheat your waffle maker until it is hot and ready.

Blend the oats into oat flour.

Mix together the oats, protein powder, baking powder, sugar and salt.

Add in the greek yogurt, eggs and vanilla extract.

Give it a stir, until combined, but try to avoid over mixing.

Lightly grease your waffle maker. I use spray oil, even though my waffle maker is non-stick.

Add the batter to the waffle maker.

Close the lid.

Wait for the waffles to cook. This takes around 2-3 minutes for most waffle makers, but make sure to read the instructions for your model. With mine you need to wait for a green light before adding the batter, and then another green light to indicate the waffles are cooked.

Serve with your choice of toppings. I like to have a little greek yoghurt and some fresh fruits, plus a little maple syrup on occasion.

Want to avoid soggy waffles?

Place your waffles on a cooling rack and they should stay nice and crisp this way. This is perfect if you're making waffles for meal prep, or just to enjoy later in the day.

What waffle maker do I recommend?

I use the Russell Hobbs 3-in-1 waffle maker that is also a toastie maker and a grill. The plates are removable, and simple to wash too. I love how straight forward it is to cook waffles in this too as the light turns off once you shut the lid down, and then when it goes green I open the lid back up and the waffles are ready!

The best waffle toppings (in my opinion!):

How to freeze these easy protein waffle maker waffles:

I cool my protein waffles down fully on a cooling rack, then I transfer to a baking tray.

I freeze them flat, and covered with cling film usually.

Once they are frozen I transfer to a ziplock storage bag, where I aim to use them within a month or so.

When reheating I like to pop them in the air fryer for a few minutes, at 170-180C, and then I serve them warm.

These are delicious for dessert too, and go great with sprinkles, sauce and ice cream for something a little fancier!
