Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve Done This Week – 31st March

We had a lovely holiday last week and this is why I missed taking part in this great linky last week. We just were NOT frugal. Our holiday was wonderful and we spent lots of money on great activities and having fun. I did manage to save us some money on Centerparcs activities with vouchers and savvy shopping at the right time of the day/week. We also picked up a few nice reductions in the supermarket there, so that was nice! Anyway, this week I’ve been back on track with being frugal and here is my Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve Done This Week – 31st March post.

Five Fabulously Frugal Things I’ve Done This Week – 31st March

  • Enjoyed homemade iced coffee. I have made this before, and shared my own recipeThis is a great way to save money and keep me away from Starbucks! I can easily spend £5 on a visit to Starbucks. While I have been getting discounted gift cards from Zeek I still don’t want to be spending that much money on Starbucks. It should be a treat. As I love coffee this is one of my compromises.
  • Meal planned. This is always a great way for us to save money. I’ve made a meal plan this week and already planned for next week too. I base our meals around my husband’s shifts and our family commitments. This works well for us and allows us to save money, eat better and have a hot dinner at the end of a busy day. We use our slow cooker lots too!
  • Used vouchers for Subway. I was going out for lunch with my friend and knew we’d want to eat out. Instead of going to a Chinese buffet, or something unhealthy, I used some Subway vouchers. We were able to eat for £2.50 each and my friend, whose losing weight to have a baby, got a massive healthy salad for the money. For just £2.50, by combining vouchers, I had a 6 inch Subway, a cappuccino and a cookie. It was nice!
  • Shopped in charity shops. While out with my friend I had a little mooch in some charity shops. My friend picked up a couple of books to keep her mind occupied, as she’s got cancer and is having a hard time atm. I found a few items of clothing for Daisy in the next size up. In my wardrobe I keep a couple of bags and boxes. During the month I pick up bargain items. Usually for under £1.  This has saved us LOTS of money and people are always complimenting Daisy’s outfits.
  • Bought jeans in a sale and had my Mum take them up. I was in desperate need of some new jeans. I’ve entered that rut of wearing the same jeans over and over. Anyway, I found a lovely pair down from £24 to just £6. I bought them and then my Mum kindly took them up for me!

I’m definitely checking out the Iced coffee recipe sounds delicious. I’ve just bought a new slow cooker after wearing out the old one so I will check out your recipes for that too. I love getting a bargain on the kids clothes we have even had some hand me downs from friends with brand name stuff in great condition, well done on your bargains.

Hope you enjoy the iced coffee, it is so simple and pretty tasty too! Sounds like you have some lovely friends. Great to get some hand me downs isn’t it. I thought I’d be snobby about clothes but I’m really not.

Your new jeans sound a bargain, and brilliant that your mother could take them up. I really need some new jeans, but don’t want to buy any before I can fit in a slightly smaller size!

Not only did my Mum take them up but she had them delivered back to me, ironed, the same day. What an amazing Mum! My jeans are huge, I’ve long since accepted my fate haha. I’ve had a baby and stayed the same size, so that is something I guess.

Aren’t mums with sewing machines the best?! I’ve just give mine a load of shirts to turn into short sleeves for me so I don’t have to buy new ones for summer!
