Every Thursday I will be bringing you another instalment of my guest series, Money Talks. I’ll be featuring bloggers from all walks of life giving their answers to money related questions. Hopefully you will find a new blog to read and learn more about other people online. Money Talks will be live every Thursday and I’ve got some absolutely fantastic bloggers taking part! Hope you enjoy it. If you’re a blogger and want to take part then get in touch. This weeks instalment features Edinburgh Life With Kids.
When did you start blogging?
I started blogged in October 2015 – I was on maternity leave with my second baby and wanted a new challenge. I had written few reviews for a friend’s blog which I really enjoyed so decided to give it a go myself.
What inspired your blog name?
Edinburgh with kids kind of says it all. We live in Edinburgh and we have kids! I also thought it might be something people would Google – how little I knew about SEO at that point!
What is your attitude to money – are you a spender or a saver?
I want to be a saver but in reality I’m a spender. I’ll amass savings but they seem to go much quicker than I manage to save.
What is the best bargain you have ever purchased?
Probably my flat. It had been painted magnolia and new carpet had been put down but there was no disguising the lack of kitchen, bathroom or heating! The area has really improved since I bought it (and added a kitchen, bathroom and heating!) now that I can rent it out it feels like quite a bargain!
What is the biggest splurge you have ever made?
I haven’t really bought single big items but rather collective surges – like I bought two really nice suits from Hobbs and then shoes from LK Bennett for work last year. Way beyond my budget but I have worn them every week to work since and will do so next year too!
If you had £100,000 right now what would you do with it?
I would pay off my student loan, pay off my car, and then put the remainder in my savings account. How boring is that?! I’d probably also go out for brunch tomorrow!
If you could go back 10 years & give yourself one piece of money related advice what would it be?
To think before I buy! I cringe when I think how easily I spent money as a student when I could so easily have saved. I don’t think I’m ever going to have that kind of expendable income again.
What was the last item you purchased?
A bottle of water at IKEA. I have a love hate relationship with that shop.
What is your favourite ever blog post?
I LOVE the ‘Kids in Conversation‘ series by Cup of Jo. Her sons just seem lovely and she is amazing at capturing what they’re about.
What is your biggest money regret?
Buying things that were too easily disposable. I’m at the point that quality massively wins out over quantity. I care much more about quality and longevity. I’ve used reusable nappies with my second child and don’t even want to think how much I could’ve saved if I had used them with my daughter as well!
