Every Thursday I will be bringing you another instalment of my guest series, Money Talks. I’ll be featuring bloggers from all walks of life giving their answers to money-related questions. Hopefully, you will find a new blog to read and learn more about other people online. Money Talks will be live every Thursday and I’ve got some absolutely fantastic bloggers taking part! Hope you enjoy it. If you’re a blogger and want to take part then get in touch. This weeks instalment features Odd Socks and Lollipops. You can check out the Odd Socks and Lollipops website here.
When did you start blogging?
I actually had to look back to see when my first post was… it was June 2014! I can’t believe it’s been that long. Though I didn’t post again for another month! After that, I started posting a little more regularly.
What inspired your blog name?
I wanted my blog name to be something that would last, and I would be able to keep should I ever change the focus of my blog. I have always worn odd socks, for as long as I can remember, and it’s something that will never change. I am not sure where exactly lollipops came from but I loved the name and it seemed to get across the eclectic nature of my blog, and life as a parent I guess.
What is your attitude to money – are you a spender or a saver?
I do try to save, and I am better at saving money for my daughter than for myself. I have the best intentions but then I see a book (or two or three) and all self-control goes out of the window. I am really strict with myself on certain things, but then other things, like clothes, toys and book for my daughter and books for myself and I just go a little bit mad.
What is the best bargain you have ever purchased?
I am not sure what the biggest bargain is, but one of my most recent bargains is a wonderful pair of shoes from Clarks for my daughter that were only £8 in the sale.
What is the biggest splurge you have ever made?
Our car, it was the most money I had ever spent on one thing, and it was a bit daunting at the time, but we love our car and it’s been well worth the money.
If you had £100,000 right now what would you do with it?
I would definitely put it towards buying a house. We are saving up for a deposit right now, and that seems an impossible task with rent being so incredibly high.
If you could go back 10 years & give yourself one piece of money related advice what would it be?
Oh this is a tough one, I am not sure it’s specifically money advice but I would tell myself that my mum and stepdad will always be there to help and support me and if I need money they will always do everything they can.
What was the last item you purchased?
Books, I treated myself to 4 books by Holly Black with what was left of the money I was given (with strict instructions to spend it on myself not my daughter) for Christmas.
What is your favourite ever blog post?
I think that my favourite, recent blog post (there are so many I can’t pick one favourite) is my round up of the 67 books I read in 2017. I loved writing it, and it was wonderful to look back and see how many amazing books I read last year.
