Every Thursday I will be bringing you another instalment of my guest series, Money Talks. I’ll be featuring bloggers from all walks of life giving their answers to money-related questions. Hopefully, you will find a new blog to read and learn more about other people online. Money Talks will be live every Thursday and I’ve got some absolutely fantastic bloggers taking part! Hope you enjoy it. If you’re a blogger and want to take part then get in touch. This weeks instalment features Beauty Markdown. You can check out the Beauty Markdown website here.
When did you start blogging?
I’ve had a blog on and off since 2010, but my first one was me anonymously trying to be funny. Just think, if I’d started a beauty blog back then, would I now be a multi-millionnairess like Zoella?
What inspired your blog name?
I was trying to think of a pun about makeup and bargains that hadn’t already been taken – Beauty Markdown – like a beauty mark?
What is your attitude to money – are you a spender or a saver?
Both! I set high savings goals and if I hit them I splash out on something I’d never usually buy.
What is the best bargain you have ever purchased?
I once only spent about £50 in total on a overnight trip to Paris including travel, hotel and food – but people are usually most impressed at how I got my Dyson hoover for “free” using a glitch, Tesco points accumulated through Top Cashback, and a final partial refund for a tiny fault it had.
What is the biggest splurge you have ever made?
My first brand new Honda scooter that got stolen within 6 months!
If you had £100,000 right now what would you do with it? Buy a house with a smaller mortgage. Dull, but I’m a millennial, I can’t eat 40 avocados a day AND own my own home.
If you could go back 10 years & give yourself one piece of money related advice what would it be?
Always negotiate on salary before you accept a job, everyone’s getting paid a lot more than you think, and bosses will pay young women the bare minimum every time if they can get away with it.
What was the last item you purchased?
A load of weird Cheesestring things, 6 bottles of men’s deodorant and some Perrier water – most of which will be refunded by Shopmium.
What is your favourite ever blog post?
My own? Something really nerdy like when I weighed what was left in empty packaging or Litmus tested acid toners. In terms of other people’s I love Poppy D’s writing and her fun approach to beauty blogging like in this post.
What is your biggest money regret?
Boring, but I wish I started a private pension earlier.
If you enjoyed this post I’d love it if you could pin it on Pinterest!
