Thanks to the lovely Chammy at ChammyIRL I have been nominated to talk to you today. I’m going to be sharing my #DesertDisc songs – 8 songs to take on a desert islands.

Now the realistic part of me knows that there is little chance of electricity AND an iPhone charger on a desert island but it is all a bit of fun isn’t it. I hope that you’ll enjoy this post and learning more about some of my favourite ever songs. These are my Desert Disc choices.

8 songs to take on a desert island - My Desert Disc choices

Desert Disc 1: The Great Gig In The Sky – Pink Floyd

I can really vividly recall the first time I ever heard this song. My lovely husband is a fan of Pink Floyd and over the years it is a song that we’ve listened to irregularly but it still moves me in the same way.

Desert Disc 2: Piano Man – Billy Joel

When my daughter was a couple of months old this song was on the radio. My husband and I started dancing together with our daughter and she returned our silliness with peals of laughter.

It was a beautiful noise and now this song will always make me think of that wonderful moment.

Desert Disc 3: I Can’t Make You Love Me – George Michael

While this isn’t an original George Michael song this is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. I have seen George Michael live quite a few years ago now and he performed this.

The lyrics seem to really fit with the emotion that George provides to the song.

Desert Disc 4: The Way You Look Tonight – Elton John

This was the first dance when I married my lovely husband. Just the opening bars of this song can lift my mood instantly. We still look at one another whenever we hear this song playing somewhere.

Our wedding day was one of the best of our life and I love this reminder.

Desert Disc 5: The Chain – Fleetwood Mac

This song reminds me of growing up. My Dad was a Fleetwood Mac fan and a different song was played at his funeral in 2016. This reminds me of watching Formula One with my Dad and I love the song.

Desert Disc 6: Hallelujah – Jeff Buckley

This is one of my husband’s favourite songs and I love it too now. The lyrics are beautiful and I love that part of the song is singing about the bars of the song.

It is an amazing song and while there are lots of versions this has to be my favourite one.

Desert Disc 7: Clair De Lune – Claude Debussy

My daughter falls to sleep every single night listening to this song. This is a song that I have loved since my teenage years and while it is different to my usual music style it just instantly relaxes me.

I feel calm and serene when I hear this song.

Desert Disc 8: Madonna – Just like a prayer

When our daughter was born THIS was the song that was playing! We waited 7 years for our daughter and the title of this song was so fitting for her birth.

We didn’t choose the radio station that was playing so it was just a happy coincidence that she was born to a great song.

She was almost born to a different song, but thankfully she took another two minutes to deliver and this was playing.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this little insight into my favourite songs. Or some of them at least.
