Meal planning is something that is really important in our home. Having a meal plan allows us to be prepared for activities, save money, avoid buying takeaways and eat well. Also, as our daughter has lots of allergies it allows us to be prepared and ensure that we can all eat together and avoid relying on convenience foods. Which are often more expensive. This week I’m doing something a little different, and sharing my meal plan for next week with you.

Next week’s meal plan

Monday – Slow cooker beef chilli with slow cooker rice

Tuesday – Slow cooker sausage cassoulet

Wednesday – Spaghetti + meatballs

Thursday – Pasta bake + salad

Friday – Pizza with homemade chicken dippers and garlic bread

Saturday – Slow cooker chicken curry with slow cooker rice

Sunday – Slow cooker roast chicken with all the trimmings

I’ll be packing these meals full of veg. We have cut the amount of meat that we use in half and increased the amount of vegetables that we use. This is great for saving money AND being healthier. I try to have at least 2-3 vegetable portions per person in each of our evening meals.

I don’t meal plan for breakfast and lunch but I always ensure, when doing our weekly shop, that we have lots of items in. For example at breakfast we might have cereal, porridge, toast or something a bacon sandwich as a treat. For lunch we vary between standard choices, like sandwiches, or something a bit more interesting, like a hot lunch. Often we will have an omelette, noodles or sometimes leftovers from another night.

I have never done a meal plan, I tend to go to the shops a couple if times a week and buy 2-3 meals that we fancy. I really should start sitting down with my family and planning our meals, we would eat a lot more variety I expect.

It definitely helps you save money too as those extra trips to the shops often lead to impulse buys don’t they. I’m a sucker for a cute pair of leggings for my daughter!

I really need to meal plan. I am terrible at deciding on the day what we are going to have. I find we spend so much on food as well. Although we do tend to eat a lot of vegetables which I find really helps with the saving.

I LOVE making meal plans, especially with many dietry requirement s I find if I don’t I end up eating bad, lots of snack etc, all the time! It also makes me feel was more organised than I am! I love the fact that you’re cutting down on your meat (I’m vegan) and I hope you are feeling some of the health benefits from it!
