Meal planning is something that is really important in our home. Having a meal plan allows us to be prepared for activities, save money, avoid buying takeaways and eat well. Also, as our daughter has lots of allergies it allows us to be prepared and ensure that we can all eat together and avoid relying on convenience foods. Which are often more expensive. This week I’m doing something a little different, and sharing my meal plan for next week with you.
Next week’s meal plan
Tuesday – Slow cooker sausage cassoulet
Wednesday – Spaghetti + meatballs
Thursday – Pasta bake + salad
Sunday – Slow cooker roast chicken with all the trimmings
I’ll be packing these meals full of veg. We have cut the amount of meat that we use in half and increased the amount of vegetables that we use. This is great for saving money AND being healthier. I try to have at least 2-3 vegetable portions per person in each of our evening meals.
I don’t meal plan for breakfast and lunch but I always ensure, when doing our weekly shop, that we have lots of items in. For example at breakfast we might have cereal, porridge, toast or something a bacon sandwich as a treat. For lunch we vary between standard choices, like sandwiches, or something a bit more interesting, like a hot lunch. Often we will have an omelette, noodles or sometimes leftovers from another night.
