Our stay was complimentary thanks to our Ultimate Time Together Smartbox from Buyagift. This covered our room and our breakfast and it was really easy to use our voucher. We just had to send an email to the hotel in advance, and then provide our voucher at check-in. We were not required to review the hotel stay in exchange for our voucher but I had to share as I felt it was a great stay!

We recently went to Peppa Pig World in Southampton and we were looking for somewhere close to Southampton Central train station to spend the night in. As we were just going to be passing through, arriving at 11pm and leaving at 8am, we weren’t overly worried about where we stayed. However, after reading a few favourable reviews I booked the Novotel Southampton for us and I want to share our thoughts on this hotel with you today.

Arriving at the Southampton Novel

When we arrived, at 11:20pm, we were pleased to see that the reception is manned 24 hours a day. Our room was already set up, and our key cards were ready and waiting. As we had an Ultimate Time Together Smartbox from Buyagift we handed in our voucher and hoped that we wouldn’t be charged. As I’d already used the online check-in they had held £140 on my credit card, which took 12 days to be removed. Not so impressive! Anyway, when we checked in we were told that our room had a cot waiting, as per my online request when I checked in that morning, however when we arrived to our room this was NOT the case. It was almost midnight by this point and we were just so tired, so we put Daisy in bed with us and went to sleep.

Our room at the Southampton Novotel

Novotel Southampton Review - Bedroom area

The room had a large bed, I think a Queensize, so there was plenty of room for the 3 of us. Also, the sofa pulled out into a sofa-bed which we might have used if Daisy was a little older. The bed was really comfortable and the bedding was fresh, there was also a little plaque telling us that the bedding hadn’t been bleached, which was great for my sensitive skin!

Novotel Southampton review TV area

In our Southampton Novotel hotel room, we had a 32-inch LCD TV which had multiple channels (including Cbeebies!). There was a desk and chair, as well as a footstool and another small table, which was resting on top of the footstool. This meant that lots of space wasn’t used up and the room felt spacious.

Novotel Southampton Review - Bathroom

Our room had a bathroom, with over the bath shower, as well as fresh towels and toiletries. We had hand soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. We took our own products so we only used the hand soap, but that was pretty nice. Also, there was a separate toilet which was really convenient with there being three of us getting ready in the morning.

Breakfast at the Southampton Novotel

After we departed from our room, at 7am, we went to the hotel breakfast. This was a hot full English breakfast, from a self-service counter but there was also a huge array of other items. Multiple dairy-free milks, including almond and coconut, fresh fruit, cereals, waffles, with jam, Nutella and other spreads and even a pancake station. Sadly I was REALLY unwell at breakfast time so I didn’t a thing. Daisy enjoyed the fresh fruit, in her provided highchair, and Thomas had a full English breakfast. The quality was great and there was fresh tea & coffee brought over to our table too, as well as an array of fruit juices and still & sparkling water too. The selection was fantastic and Thomas told me that the breakfast was great quality.

Other parts of the hotel that we didn’t really explore were the heated indoor pool, sauna, fitness centre and bar area. All of these areas looked clean, hygienic and well cared for, like the rest of the hotel. Also, there is on-site outdoor parking, with electric car re-charging points which is fantastic.

What did we think of the Southampton Novotel?

Overall we were really pleased with the quality of the hotel. I wish we had more time, to go for a swim or enjoy a dinner in the restaurant, as it all looked like wonderful food. However, if you have lots of time, or even are just passing through, our room was really comfortable, with a lovely bed, and we had a pretty good nights sleep considering we had a 2-year-old sleeping in with us!

Very interesting read. How does that ultimate smartbox thingy work? I did have a look and you can buy one and then use it for 2 people for 24 months. But do you get to use all that’s available to you and not pay extra? That would be a great deal!
I stayed at Novotel once at the airport and it was a good experience too.

Hiya! How it works is there are literally 1000s of activities and days out/hotel stays to choose from. When you decide what you want to use you can redeem the Smartbox against it. So basically people are paying for you to choose your own day out, or overnight stay.

This time we chose this hotel, with breakfast and use of the facilities, but there were lots of other things we could have chosen instead.

They aren’t necessarily the best value for money ever, however, it depends what you choose, what day of the week you go and all that type of thing. You can definitely make a savvy decision with one of these Smartboxes x
