Meal planning is something that I have really come to love in recent months. Meal planning helps us avoid buying takeaways, helps us to eat healthier meals and has become an important part of my organisational week. Being able to look at a meal plan, and choose what we are going to eat, takes some of the stress away from our day.

Meal planning is surprisingly easy once you get into it. I spend about 10-15 minutes a week working on a meal plan, and writing a shopping list. The money that this saves us is well worth the time I invest.

We are saving a lot of money, especially as I have switched from shopping at Tesco to shopping at Aldi.

The Meal Planning Linky Week #39

This week I have planned 6 dinners. This leaves one day for using up leftovers or possibly eating out. We like to be a little loose with our meal planning, to try and avoid the possibility of food wastage. Also, we don’t eat our dinners on set days, as I just decide each evening which meal we will be eating the following day.

This weeks favourite meal plan: Our family meal plan for £45 by Utterly Scrummy

My meals for the Meal Planning Linky Week #39 are:

Beef hotpot

Beef Hotpot

Bacon mac and cheese

Bacon, mac & cheese pasta bake

Scottish Friendly - No Spend Weekend - our calzone

Calzone with garlic bread

Airfryer chips

Fish with airfryer chips and peas

A week of slow cooker dinners Slow-cooker-beef-casserole-A-look-at-the-dinner-once-the-flour-has-been-added

Slow cooker beef casserole with dumplings

Bolognese pasta bake

Bolognese pasta bake

Individual flapjacks

Snack: Individual flapjacks

I absolutely love my *triple slow cooker. It helps me batch cook, make a separate meal for Daisy and I can even make side dishes too!

Every time you publish your calzone recipe I think I must try it! I could easily make a vegetarian filling. Looks so satisfying!

I’m unsure if vegetarians eat mozzarella – but it’s the best filling I find (along with a nice simple tomato sauce!) x

Bacon Mac and Cheese pasta bake sounds wonderful for a cold evening and we love fish and chips here too

I love all the comfort foods at this time of year.

That Mac and cheese looks amazing. It’s my absolute favourite but Himself won’t eat it. 😠
I like the idea of the Bolognese pasta bake too. Makes a change from plain ol’ spag vol.

    • katykicker September 30, 2018 / 10:33 pm

Yeah it is just a way to make the spaghetti bolognese a little bit more special really!

Your calzone has reminded me I want to bake some cornish pasties! I have also never made a calzone before – does it take longer to cook than a standard pizza?

    • katykicker September 30, 2018 / 10:34 pm

I find it takes maybe 3-5 more minutes, that’s it!

Ooh cornish pasties – yum! x

Your meal plans are always so delicious! Comfort food central at ours too this week. I love Calzone, and Pasta Bakes – we’re having beef casserole too. Hope you have a fab week x

Oh! Those flapjacks looks delicious. I keep thinking about making flapjacks because I think they’d be a big hit here. Also wondering if I could make a gluten free calzone?!

    • katykicker October 1, 2018 / 8:00 pm

You definitely can! Almost all of my recipes I also make in a gluten-free form for Daisy (whose got allergies to wheat, dairy, soya, chicken and a few other things!).

You’ll probably want to use some baking powder, to help it be a little bit lighter, but it’s always trial and error for me with gluten-free recipes! xx
