Meal planning is something that I have really come to enjoy in the last few months. Meal planning helps keep us from buying takeaways, helps us eat healthier and has become an enjoyable part of my week. I love being able to look at a week’s meal plan, shop for the groceries and know that we have lots of nice meals to choose from.

Meal planning allows me to remove some of the stress from our daily life. I’m able to look each morning and see what food I fancy eating. Also, if we are going to be busy then I can choose a slow cooker dinner and get that on in the morning. This allows us to sit down to a hot meal with minimal effort at a busy time of day.

By holding myself accountable, with a meal plan, I am making healthier choices for us. We are cutting out on the takeaways, preparing food from scratch and saving ourselves money too. I have switched from shopping at Tesco to shopping at Aldi and this has helped our grocery budget too.

The Meal Planning Linky Week #43

I’ll be planning 6 meals per week each week. This leaves 1 day per week for eating leftovers, dining out or visiting friends and family for dinner. We don’t have set days for our meals, as I prefer to decide in the morning which of the meals we want and what fits in with our day’s plans.

This weeks favourite meal plan: Next weeks meal plan from My Best Crazy Life

My meals for the Meal Planning Linky Week #43 are:

A week of slow cooker dinners slow cooker roast chicken

Slow cooker whole chicken with all the trimmings including homemade stuffing & airfryer roast potatoes

chicken, spinach, filo pie - A look at the finished pie

Chicken, spinach & filo pie

Dolmio #Thankgoodness campaign - Chicken pizza

Homemade pizzas

Slow cooker chicken nachos

Slow cooker chicken nachos

Slow cooker beef casserole - A look at the dinner once the flour has been added

Slow cooker beef casserole

Airfryer chips

Fish & airfryer chips with mushy peas

I love using my *triple slow cooker and I have been testing out making side dishes in it recently too. Most of this week’s dinners are Daisy friendly so I won’t have to do that much extra cooking for her. Apart from the nights when we have chicken.

If you’re looking for meal planning inspiration then be sure to read my meal planning tips and my meal planning with mince post. I’ve also got a post about making a roast chicken go further.

I really love linking up with you each week to see what you’re cooking and to steal some of your ideas. Today I learned a good tip: Add the flour to thicken the stew straight to the slow cooker one hour before! I didn’t know it would thicken it! So what I have been doing is to pour everything out into another pot on the stove when they are all cooked, then I would add the flour at this stage and then simmer for another few minutes! Now I know that I can actually save myself the time of having one more pot to wash. Hallelujah!
Do have a great week ahead.

I think your way is probably the best to be honest! However, I would say just mix it with a tiny bit of water, to make a paste, to avoid any lumps, and then pour it in! Also, if you take the lid off near the end that helps too x

It’s a great way to use up some leftovers with minimal effort too isn’t it!

Your filo pie looks sublime! I have been busy making butternut squash soup and home made croutons today, keeping it thrifty 😀

I always feel so hungry reading your meal plans.
We are having Homemade pizzas this week. Well nearly home made, I buy the bases and we just add our own toppings. x

That sounds great. I love the stonebaked bases that Sainsburys sell!

My absolute most favourite thing to do with leftover chicken is to use it in a pie – your one sounds lovely!

Thanks so much. It’s really simple and you can just keep the filo in the freezer and a leftovers pie!
