What I’ve been reading – June 2017 edition

Reading is a past-time that I used to love, before having my daughter Daisy. I’m trying to get back to enjoying the things that I used to enjoy. This can be a bit of a stretch on my time but I knew that if I made this a monthly post I would read at least one or two books each month! I’m looking forward to sharing with you what I’ve been reading each month. I’ll be talking about a variety of books, as this is what I intend to read. I love to work on self-improvement, read about blogging better and also read the odd parenting book. From time to time there might be a mention of books that Daisy is reading too, as naturally I’m reading those with her at the moment.

What I've been reading - June 2017 edition

What I’ve been reading & loved

Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity – This has been a great help to me. I’m working on stressing less, being more productive and getting things done. There were parts of this book that I found myself dipping in and out of, however, overall I picked up a few tips. Productivity is something that I am always working on. I’ve been working on online jobs in batches now, which has freed up a lot of my time. Anywhere that I can boost productivity is great as it gives me more time for the things in life that I enjoy.

Goodnight Mister Tom – I saw this in a charity shop recently then promptly forgot to pick it up! I decided to buy the Kindle edition and reminisce over a book I haven’t read since school. This book was as good as I remembered! It tells a story of a young boy, William Beech, who is an evacuee and is taken in by Mister Tom. It has emotional parts to it and it is a real feel good book. I managed to read this in just a couple of evenings, working less in the process. Which is always good for me!

What I’ve been reading and have not loved

Pinterest for Small Business – This book was AWFUL. It was basically a small amount of pages giving me a brief description of what Pinterest is. I learned nothing at all.

Pinterest Traffic Secrets 2016- Beginners Only Training: – This book was basically the exact same book as above, just re-written in places. Some pages were IDENTICAL! Disappointment all round for these two.

I’m not thinking that I will need to have this section every month, as I’m pretty good at making a judgement on what I’ll enjoy. However, if I read something, particularly related to blogging, and it is awful hopefully I can avoid someone else wasting their money!

What I’m planning on reading next

The Million Dollar Blog – I’ve read this before, at the beginning of the year. I want to flick back through to give myself a reminder of the tips I picked up.

Got a suggestion of a great book for me? Why not leave me a comment or send me a message over on Twitter. I’m always interested in new books, and trying to improve myself in the process.

Family Fever

If you enjoyed this post I’d love it if you could pin it on Pinterest!

Great idea to include books that didn’t quite hit the spot. I love hearing what other bloggers are reading and enjoying (or not!)

I figured best to be honest. They are some of the first books that come up if you search for Pinterest too! Didn’t want someone else to waste their money, only cheap but money is money hey!

I think sometimes with social media help books is that by the time they are published they are out of date already. Best keep to blogs for the best advice on these areas!

    • katykicker June 13, 2017 / 11:21 am

I would agree with you, sometimes, but those Pinterest books weren’t out of date – just awful! You’d probably have to read them to see how bad they were, but basically they just had the text re-written several times, and on a few occasions just repeated. Truly awful!

Oh dear, shame about the pinterest books. I’d like to improve my pinterest angle so if you find a good book on it let me know!

    • katykicker June 13, 2017 / 8:34 pm

I shall do – I’m hoping to find something useful too! I think a lot of Pinterest ideas come from other bloggers too. But I was hoping for something helpful!

I really need to get back into reading, I was such a book worm before my two arrived! Never knew there were books on Pintrest, such a shame they were rubbish though! xx

    • katykicker June 15, 2017 / 8:04 am

Yeah, I’m hopeful that I will find something helpful going forward.

I’ve never read Goodnight Mr Tom, must do as I enjoyed the film. Great idea to include the books that don’t make the grade for you, like another poster says, I guess the social media ones get out of date very quickly.

    • katykicker June 15, 2017 / 8:04 am

Yeah, that’s very true! Can be hard to keep up with the changes from day to day really.

  11. Babies and Beauty June 14, 2017 / 8:36 pm

You’re doing so well, I’ve barely found time I pick up one book yet this year!!

    • katykicker June 15, 2017 / 8:05 am

Thank you. It is hard to find time for ourself isn’t it. I do read in the bath, on the rare occasion I get a relaxing bath over a quick shower!

  12. Amy | All Things Amy June 14, 2017 / 9:05 pm

I haven’t read Goodnight Mister Tom in years, loved that book! I’ve always loved reading, trying to get back into it now little sleeps a bit better.

    • katykicker June 15, 2017 / 8:06 am

I really enjoyed the book after years not reading it and was surprised that it seemed shorter/quicker to read than I thought it was back in the day. That is great that your little one is sleeping better.

  13. Kate Fever June 19, 2017 / 10:14 am

Goodnight Mister Tom was one of my all time favourites growing up – it’s an amazing book. Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested

    • katykicker June 19, 2017 / 8:40 pm

I must have read that more than almost any other book when I was growing up! Thanks for stopping by.

  14. Nyomi June 19, 2017 / 4:30 pm

Love book round ups. I did a big feminist one a while back but a monthly post is a great idea. Do remind me each time you post these so I can check in!

    • katykicker June 19, 2017 / 8:44 pm

Oh I’ll try my best. I’m going to try and read a mixture of books too just to give people a variety, rather than the same old books I’d usually read in the past. Thanks for visiting x

Oh, Goodnight Mister Tom is a beautiful book! I loved it, so much. I haven’t read it for years, I’ll have to dig out a copy and have a re-read. I also have The Million Dollar Blog on my TBR!

    • katykicker June 23, 2017 / 10:03 pm

Yes – 100% re-read it. I don’t know what TBR is but it was a great read.
