AD. Working from home is something that I have been doing full time since 2013. During that time I have had a number of ways that I have been making money online. This means my income has steadily increased, but so has my workload. I’ve learned that there are a number of things I need to use to try and help my work day run smoother. These are my work from home must haves – hope they are useful!
A decent computer
This is the number one on my work from home must haves list! I have a *MacBook Pro and now I’ve experienced the power there is no way I’d go back to before. In the past I relied on Toshiba Satellite laptops. These were not bad, at all, however, they were nothing compared to the MacBook. When I first purchased my MacBook, for £1,000, I was nervous that I wouldn’t get on with it. I had been a Windows laptop user all my adult life but I found the switch surprisingly easy. My favourite feature of the MacBook has to be that it syncs up with my iPhone. My lovely husband and I have shared calendars now and my reminder list is 100s long. The MacBook, and my iPhone, sync seamlessly and never let me down!
A reliable courier service
As part of my money making escapades I need to use a courier service from time to time. Having a reliable service, that can deliver large parcels, is ideal for me. This allows me to have a de-clutter, *list some items on eBay, make myself some cash and best of all they’ll collect from me! Perfect for those days when I’ve got deadlines to meet and don’t have time to go out.
I’m a huge fan of my Tassimo, as I’ve said before. Being able to save money on Tassimo pods allows me to enjoy premium coffee at home, with minimal effort. I love that while my Tassimo is preparing a coffee I can make some breakfast or do some admin. Having a nice coffee to look forward to really brightens up my morning – even the ones where I’ve got work to do!
A great routine
I’ve wrote before about how I get everything done, and it seems that post was a hit! I find that having a good routine, and mostly sticking to it, is one of my work from home must haves. Being organised, and scheduling my day, allows me to juggle all of the plates of parenting and working from home, without neglecting myself either. I love to be organised by keeping a #kickerlist which is my own form of a to-do list.
Regular days off
For me it has to be Sunday! On Sunday I don’t work (much!) and I just have a lovely day where I relax lots. I do some baking, sometimes prepare a nice roast dinner and we try and see family at least a couple of Sundays a month. I find that having this regular time to relax helps me start the working week feeling refreshed and not like I’ve worked too hard.
These are just a few of my work from home must haves. I feel like they are the most important ones though! For me it is important that I have a routine, reliable computer and lots of coffee. As the bulk of my work is done from home I want to be able to enjoy my surroundings and not be tempted to work 100% of the time I’m home. Relaxing is almost as important to me as working is. I don’t want to experience burnout and I never want to find myself in a position where I’m not enjoying my job.
