Whether you want to make your dinner with minimal effort and input, or you just need to complete a few chores at home while dinner cooks, these Ninja Foodi chicken fajitas are a real treat. The perfect simple family meal, with a low amount of effort, that is packed full of flavour and is a hit with my entire family.
This recipe uses the air fryer setting of the Ninja Foodi. If you don’t have one of those then you can use the bake or oven type setting instead. When I want to mix it up I like to use Ninja Foodi chicken tikka instead.
What I love about making chicken fajitas in the Ninja Foodi is that you can just get it all prepped, in advance if that suits, and then you have to just following the timer, add something else, shake up and then dinner is all taken care of.
If you’re feeding a big crowd then these fajitas are great as part of a spread of different foods. We typically eat these on their own, with just tortilla wraps, if it is just the 4 of us eating, but when it’s not I love to serve with no yeast flatbreads, coleslaw, garlic and herb dip, air fryer roasted tomatoes, Ninja Foodi white rice or even air fryer chips.
I love to make a nice big batch of this fajita chicken, and I use it for a variety of purposes. Sometimes I’ll use it for chicken fajita pasta and other times I’ll make a batch of bread maker pizza dough and use it as a topping for some tasty air fryer pizza. This is a great meal to cook up to use for batch meal prep.
Ninja Foodi devices are some of my favourite kitchen items. I own a multi-cooker OL750UK (known as the Ninja Foodi 15-in-1) and a double air fryer, AF400UK model. Both are fantastic and help me making tasty, fast family meals.
Cooking chicken in the Ninja Foodi is super convenient, quick and it is tasty too. Chicken turns out juicy and it is really simple to pack it full of flavour too. I find that chicken doesn’t dry out like it can in the oven. Best of all using the Ninja Foodi is faster than using the oven, thanks to reduced cooking time, and so I can get our meals prepared even faster. I’ve got a ton of great air fryer chicken recipes if you’re looking for some more inspiration.

Ingredients for Ninja Foodi chicken fajitas:
640g of chicken – I like to use mini chicken fillets but you can use thigh fillets, chicken breast. Boneless chicken works best.
Spray oil
3 peppers (mixed)
2 onions (red)
4 tablespoons of fajita seasoning – I use my own homemade fajita seasoning but you can buy them in UK supermarkets. This one is nice! Use less if you’re not a fan of spice.
How to cook chicken fajitas in the Ninja Foodi:
Slice your peppers and onions into large chunks. I like larger pieces, as they don’t catch and burn while cooking.
Add your chicken mini fillets to a bowl. If you’re using chicken breast then cut into strips or chunks.
Shake the fajita seasoning over the top of the chicken breast and rub it in well until everything is well coated. I like to use a tiny bit of spray oil on the breasts first, but you can skip this step if you want.
Add the coated chicken fillets or chunks to the Ninja Foodi air fryer basket.
Air fry at 200C (400F) for 10 minutes.
Add the onion and peppers, shake the basket well or use a wooden spoon to combine.
Air fryer at 200C (400F) for another 10 minutes.
If the basket of your Ninja Foodi is quite full then you’ll want to shake up 5 minutes into the cooking time.
Check that your chicken has reached a safe internal temperature before serving. This is a minimum of 74C (165F approx).
I love to add my favourite dressing when serving; salsa, guacamole and sour cream. These all work great and bring some extra flavour to this lovely dish.
You can add a squeeze of lemon or lime over the top if you want to enhance the flavour further.

Should I cut chicken for fajitas before cooking?
Cutting the chicken helps cut down on the cooking time. The smaller the chicken the faster it is going to cook.
If you want to use whole chicken breasts, and slice once they are cooked, you can do this but the chicken will have much less surface area to collect the delicious fajita seasoning.
Do you put fajita seasoning before or after cooking?
I personally use the seasoning before hand, as I like the flavour that it brings to the chicken as it cooks.
You could add it at the end, as long as it is a dry rub or hasn’t been used as a marinade for the raw chicken.
Do you normally put cheese on fajitas?
Yes, I do! You can add any cheese that you like, but my favourite is a grated sharp cheddar cheese. This works great and is another way to add a bit more protein to your meal too.
What goes best on fajitas?
While I’ve already mentioned salsa, guacamole and sour cream above, and love those, you can also add some nice shredded iceberg lettuce, diced tomato and coriander if you want to bring some extra freshness.
What chicken should you use for fajitas?
Chicken thighs will bring some extra succulence to this dish. Chicken breast is something I use frequently, as I often have this to hand.
Chicken strips or chicken tenders can be a great way to save some time on the prep work and most people have this type of food on hand in the freezer too.
If you want to make it a little more budget friendly then chicken wings or chicken legs work great too.
Can you eat fajitas without tortilla wraps?
Yes, absolutely. This would go great with rice, or you could use lettuce for wraps instead. OF course you can just eat this alone, as it’s very tasty!

Can you freeze these chicken fajitas?
Yes you can. I like to prepare the chicken, with a dry seasoning blend, and then I freeze it before cooking. Then I can just defrost it in the fridge overnight and cook as per the instructions on this recipe card.
