We are partial to a cheese scone in our house, especially as they are so simple to make, and can be adapted for our daughters FPIES allergies too. These air fryer cheese biscuits are an adaptation of my cheese scones recipe. If you’re using a Ninja Foodi then check out my Ninja Foodi cheese scones recipe instead!

I’ve perfected this recipe now and best of all these can be ready in just 12 minutes – which is even faster than my cheats cheese straws! It is also the same time as it takes to make my air fryer grilled cheese.

I’ve tested these a few different ways now, using cheese and onion quiche style flavours, but I feel that these are the original and best cheese biscuits! Tasty and crispy, while being soft and fluffy on the inside.

These are delicious with lashings of butter, or even just margarine, and they are always a hit in my home warm and fresh from the air fryer. On occasion I’ve been known to use my homemade garlic butter too, which makes them extra tasty and like a dense version of a garlic dough ball.

Air fryer cheese biscuits

Ingredients for air fryer cheese biscuits:

115g self-raising flour

55g butter

Pinch of salt

35g grated cheddar cheese

75ml semi-skimmed milk

Air fryer apple chips

Method for making air fryer cheese biscuits:

Rub together the self-raising flour and butter.

Add a pinch of salt.

Grate 35g of cheddar cheese and add this to your dry mix.

Combine.

Add the semi-skimmed milk and mix well. The consistency of the dough is fairly wet, but if you find it is overly wet just add another 5g of self-raising flour and combine again.

Divide the mixture into 6.

Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper. This prevents sticking and means you can remove the air fryer cheese biscuits with ease.

Drop the mixture inside the air fryer basket. My air fryer is tiny so I cooked 3 at a time.

Air fry at 200C for 8-10 minutes.

Can you make air fryer ham and cheese biscuits?

Yes, absolutely. You could either add some of your favourite ham to the mix, or you could cut these open while warm, butter them and layer some ham inside – yum!

Can you bake biscuits in an air fryer?

Indeed you can! For me personally I find that taking off 1/2 of the suggested oven cooking time is always a good place to start with timings. On average things tend to take about 1/3 less time, but it is always best to shoot for 1/2 of the time and then check.

Also, when cooking in your air fryer you’ll want to shake the basket regularly or turn items over to ensure super even cooking and no sticking.

What can you serve with these air fryer biscuits?

While I think these are delicious on their own if you’re looking for something savoury either to place inside OR to serve on the side I’d recommend air fryer bacon or air fryer sausages. These are both super delicious and the salty goodness of either of these meats is a great accompaniment to these cheese biscuits.

Onion gravy would do great with these biscuits if you’re serving them as a side dish to a main meal. If you allow the recipe to simmer a little more than usual you’ll have a thick, rich dipping sauce – yum!

For additional richness you can change the butter and milk in this recipe for buttermilk, just use 120ml and adjust the flour a little if you need to.

These air fryer cheese biscuits would also work super well as air fryer biscuit mini pizzas! Make up a pasta sauce, simmer it down, spread it on the top and then top with mini pepperoni or toppings of your choice. I am a big fan of making pizza dough in the breadmaker but these are something a little different that kids will love and you can make a double batch in your food processor.
