My air fryer is absolutely my most used kitchen gadget now. I have a Ninja Foodi OL750UK, which has a great variety of features, as well as an air frying / air crisp setting. Making air fryer brats is a quick and simple way to serve my family a delicious tasty meal with next to no effort or time.
I love to cook up air fryer bacon, air fryer hash browns and these bratwurst, for a tasty but slightly alternative cooked breakfast! These sausages also go great in a bacon, sausage and egg wrap!
As a busy working Mum of two lovely daughters, who likes to meal plan, I want nice easy dinners that I can cook up in next to no time and enjoy with my family too.
Mostly we love brats for dinner/tea in our house, and I will cook up a whole packet and serve with a delicious variety of bratwurst toppings. We love to serve with air fryer chips, or air fryer diced potatoes, for a really hearty filling meal, served family style, so everyone can help themselves!

Ingredients for air fryer bratwurst:
Brats of course!
I tend to cook a packet of 6 at a time, mostly because this is what I can find in the UK in either Lidl or Tesco.
How to air fry brats:
Pre-heat the air fryer to 180C (355F), and let it heat up for 2 minutes.
Lay the brats in the air fryer basket and make sure they’re not too close.
Cook for 6-7 minutes at 180C (355F).
Turn over.
Cook for another 5-6 minutes at 180C (355F).
Check the internal temperature is at least 71C (160F) for food safety as cooking time is going to vary slightly based on the thickness of your Brats.
Serve and enjoy.
I like to leave them to rest for a few minutes, usually about 5, out of the air fryer basket, while I prepare the buns and toppings for my family.
Serve with your choice of delicious sides or just with a delicious dip! I love pouring nacho cheese sauce over the top and adding a few air fryer onions too.
Are brats good in an air fryer?
Yes! I’d say they are the best! The clean up is super quick, unlike using the barbecue, and they are so fast too! 12-14 minutes is all it takes for delicious juicy, succulent, well seasoned brats.
Is air frying brats quicker?
I believe so! To fire up the barbecue doesn’t take long, but the clean up afterwards seems to take me a good 30 minutes! This is why I love to make air fryer bratwurst, also, I feel like there is zero compromise on the flavour, as brats are so well seasoned already.
Want to make air fryer bacon wrapped brats?
Cook for 5 minutes on each side, then wrap in bacon and cook for a further 3-4 minutes until delicious, crispy and ready to go!
Check the internal temperature as advised in the recipe card, just for safety.
Bacon brings a tasty extra flavour and I do love to use a skewer to hold everything in place while it cooks.
Can you air fry brats from frozen?
You can BUT I would recommend defrosting them overnight in the fridge if you can, as they just seem to cook more evenly and taste extra succulent!
Add 4-6 minutes on when cooking from frozen, and ensure that the safe internal temperature has been reached.

Want to add some vegetables in while cooking?
I find that peppers and onions work really well for the cooking time of this dish.
I love to slice the peppers and onions into wedges and then I will add them at the halfway mark after I have turned over the brats. This is such a simple way to cook some nice vegetables to fill the buns up with, or just serve on the side.
Something to note about air fryer recipes is that all air fryers have different sizes, depths and as such the cooking times can vary. All air fryer recipes on this website are intended as a guide, and not a guarantee that the timings will be perfect. Enjoy!
