Toasting air fryer English muffins is SO straight forward! You may be wondering why bother toasting muffins in the air fryer, but it takes as little time as using a toaster, and it is great if you’re looking to cut down on the number of appliances you’ve got in your kitchen.

I have actually given my toaster away as I just didn’t need to use it anymore. Now I toast items in my air fryer, or under the grill if I want to do a larger amount in one go.

Toasting an English muffin is so easy, a total breeze to be honest, and with the addition of some nice air fryer turkey bacon, air fryer sausage patties, an egg and a slice of cheddar cheese I can be enjoying a super delicious takeaway style air fryer breakfast at home for next to no cost and super fast.

Crunchy English muffins are something we enjoy in our home, but as my two daughters have allergies, I feel that sometimes they fall apart a little in the toaster. Using the air fryer makes it much more straightforward and helps me to cut food waste too by using up items that are passing their best.

When I’m making a breakfast grazing platter I love to toast up a few muffins to help bulk it out a little for a low price. I’ve even made these into a cheats french toast before with delicious results!

Ingredients for toasting English muffins in the air fryer:

4 English muffins

40g lightly salted butter

Don’t forget your favourite toppings too (see below for some inspiration).

Method for air fryer English muffins:

Pre-heat your air fryer to 200C (400F approx) for 2-3 minutes.

Slice the English muffins in half horizontally.

Place the English muffin slices in the air fryer basket with the cut side up. If your air fryer oven has racks then you’ll want to use the lower ones to keep the muffins away from the heating element to avoid burning or patchy toasting.

Only have one layer of the split english muffins to ensure even cooking and to stop them from blocking the air flow.

You don’t need to use any olive oil, or spray oil, when toasting muffins, like I might suggest with other air fryer recipes.

Cook for 3-4 minutes, turning the muffins at least once during the cooking time.

You may find that your air fryer distributes the air well enough not to really need to turn, but I like to ensure even cooking wherever I can! Especially as it just takes a few seconds with a pair of tongs.

Remove when golden brown. You can adjust the cooking time up or down based on your own preferred toasting level. I prefer a medium / golden brown, so that is what the cooking times in this recipe are based upon.

Spread the butter over while still warm and enjoy!

What to serve with English muffins?

Some of our favourite serving suggestions are jam, peanut butter, homemade garlic butterhomemade butter, sliced cooked eggs, sliced avocado, bacon, sausages, baked beans, grated cheese or even cutting the muffins into sticks and serving with dippy eggs as an alternative to toast based eggs and soldiers.

What is the best way to toast an English muffin?

For me it HAS to be the air fryer! I love how convenient it is. Also, these only take a couple of minutes so I can cook up my filling of choice and then pop these in at the end while I slice up sausages or cook scrambled eggs etc.

Can you air fry a frozen English muffin?

Absolutely! Follow the method above but add another 1-2 minutes to the cooking time to ensure thorough cooking.

Do you butter English muffins before toasting?

I’ve tried to make these both unbuttered and buttered. I feel that the butter does melt lovely but you lose some of that crisp bite, so now I butter them after they’ve been toasted.
