If you’re looking for a tasty steak meal, but are on a bit of a tight budget, you can turn minute steak into a super tasty dish by cooking it in the air fryer. Air fryer minute steak is super simple to make, quick and packed full of flavour too.

Preparing side dishes is super simple at the same time as the minute steaks are cooking and because they have a short cooking time you can cook up some tasty vegetables at the same time and have a tasty meal in minutes.

I love to cook these minute steaks up to keep in the fridge and then I use them for steak baguettes, steak fajitas or just for chopping up as a snack in my little girl’s lunchbox.

Using my air fryer is so convenient. I love that I can just place items in the air fryer basket, foods rarely need much effort from me, and in just minutes I have a tasty meal or snack ready to serve to my family. This is ideal as a busy working Mum who has small children and a little dog running around the kitchen too while cooking.

The timings in this recipe are based on having your minute steak cooked through thoroughly. You can adjust the cooking time down if you like it to be a little less well done.

I would always recommend using a *meat thermometer to check that the food you’re cooking has reached a safe internal temperature before serving it up. I find this great for meat as I can check that it is cooked throughout without having to make unsightly cuts in the meat.

If you’re looking for a delicious, tender, minute steak that is cooked up in just a few minutes then the air fryer is a great choice. You can use one of my favourite seasonings, see below, or just enjoy it with a little oil and some salt and pepper.

Ingredients for air fryer minute steak:

250g minute steaks

Salt and black pepper

5ml oil of choice or spray oil / non-stick cooking spray if you’re keeping it lower calorie

Method for cooking minute steak in the air fryer:

(For medium)

Pre-heat your air fryer at 180C (355F) for 2 minutes – this will help you to get a lovely sear on the beef steaks when you place them in the air fryer basket.

Pat your steaks dry using some kitchen towel. I always bring my steak to room temperature before cooking with it as I find it enhances the flavour and helps it cook great.

Use the oil of your choice to oil up your steaks. I use a pastry brush to ensure the whole steak is well covered but you could just as easily rub the steaks with your hands to get an even coating on them.

Season with salt and cracked black pepper.

Air fry at 180C (355F approx) for 4-5 minutes for a medium steak.

Remove the steak from the air fryer, place on a plate and leave it to rest for a few minutes. This will give you time to put together your sides and heat through any sauce you’re serving with your steak.

When I’m in a rush I love to cook up some microwave rice or pressure cooker rice to go with this. It makes for a simple but flavour packed meal and if you buy the microwave rices there are tons of different flavours in the supermarket.

Why is my minute steak tough?

Stick to the temperature in this recipe as these are thin cut steaks and you don’t want them to be too thin.

Cooking for longer, at a lower temperature, can lead to a steak that is tough or chewy in texture.

You want a nice high temperature to sear your meat well and ensure it is cooked to perfection.

How thick should a minute steak be?

Minute steaks are usually very thin, around 1/4 inch thick. Much thinner than normal steaks.

Do you need to flip minute steaks in air fryer?

I don’t bother to flip these, just because they are so thin that they cook through very fast anyway.

Air fryers typically have good air flow, as long as you’re not using foil or baking paper etc.

How do you avoid minute steak drying out?

Rest your steak for a couple of minutes after you’ve finished cooking it, just to give the steak time to relax and let the juices be evenly distributed.

Any leftover juices from the resting can be added to any sauces or marinades that you make.

Do I put oil on steaks before you air fry?

Yes, I do. I also like to preheat the air fryer just to help give it a nice sear.

Looking for some side dish suggestions to serve with your minute steaks?

Tons of side dishes work very well with steak. If you’re wanting to try some of the traditional type ones then I’d recommend you go for air fryer chips or potato wedges in the air fryer

In my home I love to serve up a few sides such as air fryer green beans, air fryer roasted tomatoes, air fryer frozen french fries, air fryer frozen onion rings and sometimes a nice pat of homemade garlic butter

What sauces go great with steaks?

Peppercorn sauce, chimichurri sauce, Diane sauce, beef gravy, beef drippings, tomato ketchup, tomato & chili salsa and garlic and herb dip all go beautifully with steak.

Want to try a flavoured butter to add to your steak while serving?

My absolutely favourite is garlic butter. It is a classic flavour, that works well, and keeps your steak nice and juicy too. I just add a pat to the top of the steaks when I serve them up.

Something to note about air fryer recipes is that all air fryers have different sizes, depths and as such the cooking times can vary. All air fryer recipes on this website are intended as a guide, and not a guarantee that the timings will be perfect. Enjoy!
