I’m an air fryer fan until the day I die! It is my absolute favourite kitchen gadget. It helps me make tasty, crispy dishes, in less time than oven cooking. These air fryer potato slices are delicious as a side dish or even for use on top of a beef hotpot.

Potato slices are super simple to prepare, taking just minutes, and you can either slice them with a knife or with a mandolin instead. I’ve been growing my own potatoes recently, and fresh herbs, and so I’ve been trying out lots of new ways to cook up potatoes and sharing my favourites here.

Family dinner times are nice and helpful when I cook up air fryer side dishes like this one. I love that I can do most of the prep during the day, in a break from work, and then when I get home from the school run I’m able to get dinner cooking in just a few minutes.

You could make batches of these potato slices up in advance and pop them in the freezer. I like to freeze them flat on a baking tray and then transfer to an airtight container. Alternatively you could use a Ziplock or freezer safe bag.

While you’re here be sure to check out my air fryer tips for beginners. Whether you’re a total beginner to air frying, or just looking to get more from your air fryer, this is sure to help!

These air fryer potato slices work so well as part of a main meal, or even just served alone as a tasty late night snack.

If you want something sweet to enjoy after the richness of this pie I can firmly recommend my air fryer cookies or midnight cookies recipes. Check out my favourite air fryer recipes or my tips for air frying while you’re here too.

Ingredients for air fryer potato slices:

350g white potatoes

15ml oil of choice or olive oil spray

Salt and pepper

Seasoning of choice – see below for some suggestions

Method for cooking potato slices in the air fryer:

Peel your potatoes if you like to.

Wash thoroughly.

Slice into 1/2 cm thick slices (1/5 inch thick).

Pat your potato slices dry and then place the slices into a mixing bowl.

To the potato slices add the oil and your seasoning of choice. You could use just salt and black pepper if you want to but I love to use Old Bay, Paprika or cajun seasoning.

Mix well to ensure that all the slices are coated thoroughly.

Lay the potatoes in a single layer in the air fryer basket.

Air fry at 200C (395F approx) for 8 minutes.

Flip the potato slices.

Air fry at 200C (395F approx) for a further 6-8 minutes.

Check back near the end of the cooking time to ensure that the potato slices are not burning.

Looking for some alternate seasoning suggestions for air fryer sliced potatoes?

First up I love to make my own seasoning blends. Fajita seasoning, cajun seasoning, peri peri seasoning and Mexican seasoning all work perfectly on this air fried potato slices.

I love garlic powder and onion powder too when I want to keep it simple.

Want to add cheese to your potato slices?

This is stunning and I firmly recommend you do this for the last few minutes of the cooking time – once your potato slices are basically cooked through.

I love a mix of cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese and Red Leicester as I find those melt well together, bring lots of good flavour and are super tasty.

Why do you soak these potatoes slices before air frying?

I like to remove the starch from the potatoes. I then dry them thoroughly before I oil and season and then air fry them. This works great and results in a crispy potato that is fluffy on the inside.

Why don’t my potatoes get crispy in the air fryer?

Make sure you’ve evenly coated the potatoes before you crisp them up and that they are oiled well. A higher heat in the air fryer will help to crisp these potatoes up beautifully.

What potatoes are best for making potato slices?

Any potatoes are great for this recipe. I love to use white potatoes, a versatile or hardy variety. Yukon Gold potatoes or Russets are some of my favourites and give great results.

You could even use baby potatoes or canned potatoes if those are all you have in, just adjust the cooking time downwards.

Looking for some tasty meat dishes to serve with your potato slices?

I love to serve these with air fryer jerk chicken, chicken kebabs made in the Ninja Foodi and with air fryer breaded chicken breast too. It works great with all sorts of recipes though.

A white bowl of root vegetable mash with a brushed steel spoon, a pat of butter on the top and a pink waffle tea towel in the background.

What sauces go great with potato slices?

I find that cream based or white wine based sauces go great with potato slices. A tomato based sauce is delicious too and I’ve even blended courgettes into homemade pasta sauce too with great results.

Tomato ketchup is my favourite dipping sauce, as is barbecue sauce and even mayonnaise.
